If your turkey is frozen place it in the refrigerator for two days
to thaw. (You can place it in a bowl of water for about 12 hours
if in a hurry.)
Clean the carcass good and rub inside and out with salt and black
pepper. Place in covered roaster or use aluminum foil leaving some
room for expansion. Add two cups of water. Bake in 350 degree
oven. Fresh birds (unprocessed) will take approximately 30 minutes
per pound. Processed fowl (i.e. Butterballs) will take less - approx.
20 minutes per pound. Check the lable on the package.
When turkey is done make the dressing. Place dressing around the
turkey and cook at 350 degrees F for an additional hour. (If the
turkey doesn't brown remove the cover.)
Don't let the turkey go dry. Check the water level on ocassion. |
