SOUTHWEST STEW

3 lbs. Beef stew meat 1/2 C. all purpose flour
1/4 C. vegetable oil 2 lbs. Fresh mushrooms, quartered
3 large onions, diced 4 cloves garlic, minced
8 oz. chopped green chilies 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 C. dry red wine 2 tbsp. Chili powder
2 tsp. Salt 1 tsp. Black pepper
Cut beef into 1 inch cubes. In a large bowl, combine steak and flour, tossing to evenly coat steak. In soup pot, heat oil over med. heat. Add beef and cook 5 to 6 min. until evenly browned. Add remaining ingredients, draining chiles, and bring to boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Stir occasionally.
